Lactation help is here for you, in any way you need it, from small group settings to affordable home visits. Three amazing IBCLCs started Lactation Learning Collective, with the goal of making lactation support accessible to you.
The group consists of LaShanda Dandrich, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, IBCLC, and co-founder of the worker-owned cooperative, Uptown Village Cooperative.
After the birth of her daughter in 2009, her passion for breastfeeding and supporting mothers and families in the postpartum period blossomed. She became a trained postpartum doula while pursuing her IBCLC credential. She has supported families of all diverse, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds throughout NYC. She resides in Harlem with her 12-year-old daughter.
Allison Walsh an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (2006), Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (2000), and doula (2000) in private practice in New York City. She also serves as the Outreach Coordinator for the New York Milk Bank and trains childbirth educators as a Co-Director of the NYC Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program.
Allison is a member of the New York City Breastfeeding Leadership Council, the New York Lactation Consultant Association, and an active La Leche League Leader since 2001. Recently, she co-chaired the Save the Birthing Center Committee which was a group of professionals, advocates and consumers who fought valiantly but unsuccessfully to stop the closure of the Mount Sinai West (formerly Roosevelt) Birthing Center in New York City.

These support groups are appropriate for many common lactation challenges or concerns including assistance with latch and position, sore nipples, plugged ducts, being sure baby is getting enough, establishing a good milk supply, pumping, and returning to work, etc. They use a sensitive scale to weigh babies before and after feeds to determine intake.
However, support groups are not for everyone. They are not appropriate for complex lactation or medical situations. These are best served by a detailed home visit with ongoing support. For one on one clinic visits please email lactationmentoring@gmail.com with “Appointment Request” as the subject.
