Sensory Social Hour:

This group is for children who need additional support with self-regulation and social communication skills.åÊThese play-based, small group classes foster social development, while promoting individual growth. Children's strengths and interests are incorporated into fun, hands on activities that promote self-confidence, while working on areas of weaknesses.

The focus of this group is to introduce and practice social skills needed to establish and maintain friendships, in a nurturing and supportive environment. Children will develop their understanding of their sensory needs, their feelings, and empathy towards others. Children will learn to share, negotiate, take turns, and strengthen verbal expressions to maintain reciprocal interactions with peers.

About the Instructors:


Andria Procopio, M.S., OTR/L, CHHC

Andria obtained her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Seton Hall University.åÊåÊShe holds a certification in Holistic Health Coaching from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and is also trained in the SOS Approach to Feeding.åÊåÊAndria is a staff occupational therapist at LearningSpring School.åÊåÊShe also works with children and their families in-home and consults with local schools in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, Brooklyn.åÊåÊShe founded ofåÊA Well Fed Mind -åÊaåÊNorth Brooklyn-based private practice.

Andria has worked with both adults and children with various disabilities within the clinical, home, and school-based settings.åÊåÊShe specializes in autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, learning disabilities, and developmental delays.åÊåÊHer philosophy is that in order to haveåÊa well fed mind,åÊwe must receive nourishment from healthy foods, fulfilling relationships, and a supportive environment.åÊåÊIn her work, Andria combines traditional occupational therapy treatment approaches with functional medicine and nutrition to increase therapy outcomes for those with learning disabilities, social emotional difficulties,åÊand sensory processing issues.


Arefa Mohamed, M.A., CCC-SLP, TSSLD

Arefa Mohamed is the head of the speech and language department at LearningSpring School.åÊ She obtained her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology at CUNY, Queens College and is also trained in the SOS approach to feeding.åÊ She has more than a decade of experience working with families and children ages 2 to 14 in both the home and school environments.åÊ She has presented on a range of language-based topics, including play development, at the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (2011), New York State Association of Independent Schools (2017), and Young Child Expo New York Conference (2019).åÊåÊ

Arefa believes that a collaborative relationship with a child and their family is an essential component for success in working together. åÊ She works from a developmental approach, meeting each child at their current functional level and builds upon their skills to support ongoing development. She utilizes dynamic assessments and a play-based approach in therapy. As each child has unique strengths and challenges, Arefa strives to understand their complete profile, including sensory, motor, and emotional development in order to support her work in speech and language therapy.åÊ
