About this Event

Our children are growing up at a time when screens are omnipresent. As families, we are all navigating a digital landscape that includes phones, tablets, televisions, animated billboards, smartwatches and more. Because the development of new media outpaces our understanding of its effects, conversations around screen-time are often layered with opinion, judgment, and guilt.

This class is an opportunity to step back and not only learn what we really know about children and screens, but also consider how screen-time fits into our own families’ lives and how to make choices around it confidently.

Topics include:

- Current guidelines and where they come from

-Effects of different types of screens and digital experiences on children

-The value and benefits of screen-based content and activities

-Making the most of screen-time

-Finding a balance that works for your family

About the Instructor:

Melina Gac Levin, M.S.Ed.

Melina is an infant and toddler developmental specialist with over a decade of experience working with families and children. Her passion lies in supporting young children and their families to find joy and comfort in themselves, each other and their community. She is enjoying experiencing things firsthand as the mother to an active and curious toddler.

Melina holds a dual Masters in Infant, Toddler and Family Development and Early Childhood General & Special Education from Bank Street College of Education. She is certified to teach children yoga through Asana Alphabet, and trained in infant massage through Loving Touch International. Melina has presented workshops at Bank Street's Infancy Institute and at the NYSAIS Diversity and Equity in Curriculum Conference. She is an adjunct faculty member at Bank Street where she teaches World of the Infant.
